BASSTERRE, ST. KITTS AND NEVIS, SATURDAY JANUARY 05, 2018 – Drama is unfolding in the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletics Association with the sudden resignation of Vice-President Evris Huggins.
In a letter dated January 05, 2018 and addressed to SKNAAA General Secretary Keithley Phillip, Huggins wrote: “It is with deep regret that I inform you of my decision to resign form my position as Vice-President, St. Kitts-Nevis Athletics, effective today Saturday 5th January 2019. In doing so, I will further relinquish my appointed duties as Chairman of Selection and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee.”
Huggins, in his resignation letter pointed out that his agreement to serve on “my third quadrennial with this executive, was against a backdrop of a new era in track and field.”
He lamented that “I am dissatisfied and uncomfortable with the direction in which the leadership of this association is taking our beloved sport. Furthermore my skills sets have been marginalised as I have been excluded from the decision-making process especially as a principle officer of this executive. I therefore cannot continue to serve.”
No word yet as to what action the executive of the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletics Association will take, on the heels of this sudden resignation.
Additionally, what action and or actions will the affiliates take, but here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, track and field officials when contacted with the news, were surprised, one saying that “I did not see this coming.”
