Over two dozen runners will be contesting the 2016 Pitons Peak Marathon, part of the Southern Caribbean Challenge, staged by the sports travel company, Z Adventures.
The bulk of the group will be arriving in Saint Lucia aboard the Carnival Liberty cruise vessel, on the morning of Thursday 4 February 2016.
In Saint Lucia, the runners will link up with local runners to contest distances from five kilometres up to a full marathon, on a loop route in Cul de Sac.
Saint Lucia aside, the organisers are coordinating runs over the course of a week in Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Barbados, St Kitts an Nevis, and Sint Maarten.
During the week, “adventurers and sports enthusiasts” are taking in a trip described as “filled with unique running challenges and cultural immersion.”
Saint Lucia’s Ministry of Youth Development and Sports are handling local coordination, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage, and Creative Industries.
The ministry will be bussing the athletes down to the venue, and partners including Paradise Springs and Peter and Company will facilitate water stops.
The Saint Lucia Red Cross along with Beckwith International Leadership Development programme, also support the run.
Thursday’s Pitons Peak Marathon gets underway from 9:00 a.m.
