KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES; TUESDAY FEBRUARY 20, 2018 – A number of football (soccer) referees turned up at the conference room of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation Secretariat on Monday evening, to participate in their regular Mondays training.

However there was an absence of key executive officers, so Lorson Lewis the Referees Assessor and Instructor, used the opportunity to review training programmes and objectives regarding the fitness tests.

Addressing the meeting, Lewis told the gathering that he is seeking to prepare all referees for future football tournaments of all divisions, under the management of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation.

He informed the assembled referees and assistant referees that the training programme being used is similar to the one all the member associations and their referees in the CONCACAF region used.

“You the referees are responsible for your own fitness,” Lorson told the referees present.

Self-motivation, educating of one’s self, are just a few of the attributes needed in the development of a referee and or an assistant referee.

Lorson called on the referees to learn how to manage and carry out their responsibilities, since they are all working. There was concerned by a number of referees regarding their work schedule, their training towards overall physical fitness, and the impact on meeting the requirements of the fitness tests.

One of the aims according to the Assessor is to train a dedicated group of referees to officiate in upcoming Futsal tournaments. This is needed since there are different laws governing Futsal, and referees must be prepared to undertake the proper officiating of games, and interpretation of the laws governing the game.

A number of video clips were shown by the Lorson Lewis on the various laws governing Futsal, to which many questions were asked, along with clarifications sought on the various Laws of Futsal.
