SION HILL, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES – Jamaica battled to a draw with Barbados in their 2018 Cricket West Indies Regional Under-19 first round Championship against Barbados match at Sion Hill on Sunday.

Set 213 to win in a minimum 38 overs, Jamaica reached 138 for six off 45 overs when the two captains shook hands and call it a day, with about fifteen minutes remaining.

Andre McCarthy top-scored with 47 off 71 balls, hitting seven fours and one six. Kirk McKenzie was caught and bowled by left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop for four (5-1; 1.3 overs). Carlos Brown was bowled by left-arm spinner Camarie Boyce for 30 (64-2; 24 overs).

Ricardo McIntosh was caught by Nyeem Young off Boyce for 27 (67-3; 24.5 overs). Raewin Senior was caught by Shian Brathwaite off Shemar Persaud for eight (75-4; 27.2 overs). Dominik Samuels was caught by Tauron Gibson off Persaud for one (87-5; 32 overs), and McCarthy was bowled by Young (134-6; 43 overs). The not out batsmen were Kimani Wilson on 17 and Roberto Simpson, two.

Bowling for Barbados, Mathew Forde finished with 5-1-13-0, Joshau Bishop 11-1-29-1, Camarie Boyce 14-3-36-2, Shemar Persaud 11-1-42-2, and Nyeem Young 4-1-17-1.

Barbados, with a first innings lead of 83, declared their second innings on 129 for three off 24 overs, about 46 minutes before the scheduled tea interval. Kadeem Alleyne top-scored in the Barbados second innings with 50 off 46 balls including three fours and two sixes to follow his first innings 54. Shian Brathwaite was run out for 14 (37-1; 7.3 overs), while opener Nico Reifer made 47 off 71 deliveries, striking five fours, while skipper Joshau Bishop was unbeaten on 15.

For the Jamaicans, McKenzie took two for 24 off three overs; bowling both Reifer and Alleyne. Andre Blake finished with figures of 5-0-34-0, Raewin Senior 9-0-37-0, Sanjay Brown 7-0-33-0, and Kirk McKenzie 3-0-24-2.

Overnight, Jamaica were 61 for four off 29 overs in reply to a first innings total of 223 all out off 69 overs by Barbados at the close of play on the second day; a game which had its share of rain stoppages.

The were bowled out for 140 in 57.3 overs in reply to the Barbados first innings total of 223 all out off 69 overs. All-rounder Senior top-scored with 54 off 97 balls including five fours and one six. He having a wonderful around performance having taken seven for 58 off 27 overs in the Barbados first inning.

The last six Jamaica wickets fell for 15 runs; the last five for just two runs. Boyce took three for 38 off 17 overs, Bishop, three for 40 off 20.3 overs and medium-pacer Matthew Forde, two for 28 off six overs.

On Sunday, Sanjay Brown, who resumed on two, was caught by substitute Jaden Edmund off Forde for 20 (125-5; 48.2 overs). Senior was caught by Shian Brathwaite off Forde (138-6; 52.5 overs). Samuels was caught by Forde off Bishop for one (138-7; 54 overs).

Simpson was run out for nought (140-8; 55.3 overs). Wilson was caught by Reifer off pacer Nyeem Young for two (140-9; 56.3 overs), and Michael Megs was leg before wicket by Bishop for nought (140 all out; 57.3 overs), leaving Andre Blake was not out on nought.
