Defending champions Canaries and former three-time champions Dennery booked places into the semi-finals of the 2015 Blackheart/SLFA knockout Football Tournament, after a massively entertaining and exciting weekend of football at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.
First to book their place in the semi-finals was Dennery, who ran away with a convincing 4-nil win over South Castries. They were led to victory by second-half substitute Winel Felix who scored two goals in the dying minutes of the encounter in time added-on.
Other goals for Dennery came from Kenvie Polius in the 35th minute, and Ridel Stanislaus in the 55th minute.
Then defending champions Canaries booked their spot in the semi-finals with a controlled 1-0 win over Babonneau. Antoine Wilfred was the goal scorer for Canaries in the 13th minute of the encounter; his second goal in as many matches in the tournament for Canaries.
Dennery and Canaries will meet in the semi finals of the competition this coming Saturday evening at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux-Fort in what is expected to be a mouthwatering semifinal encounter.
Meanwhile last Saturday evening at the Soufriere Mini Stadium, Micoud and Soufriere earned the rights to play in the quarter finals after contrasting wins – both over former champions Mabouya Valley and Gros-Islet, respectively.
Micoud with a penalty from Kershan Marcellin in the 8th minute was enough to get them into the quarter finals where they will come up against Marchand.
In the next game spurred on by a boisterous home crowd, Soufriere staged a miraculous and unbelievable comeback in their match against Gros-Islet. From being 2-nil down, the Soufriere team stormed back to win 4-2.
Gros-Islet quickly went ahead with goals from Troy Greenidge in the 8th and Elijah Louis in the 36th minute respectively, and look set to travel back to the north with a well-earned victory.
But Soufriere refused to go away, and mounted wave after wave of attack, and pulled one back at the stroke of half-time when Arthurton Griffith converted.
A transformed Soufriere in the second half scored three unanswered goals in a period of play which had the large partisian crowd on their feet baying in a frenzy as goals came from Griffith again in the 47th minute, Jordan Henry in the 57th minute, and Ned Etan in the 73rd minute.
Soufriere will now play Roseau Valley on Wednesday evening form 6:00 p.m., and from 8:00 it is Marchand and Micoud meeting in the other quarter-final to decide the other two semi-finalists.
