In an attempt to strengthen the basketball feeder system in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation (SVGBF) will be rolling out two programs namely the school programme, and the Grassroots Program.

These Sport Development and Sport for Development programs fall in line with the Long Term Athlete Development Program (LTAD) of the Basketball Federation.

According to Wayne Williams president of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation, “We commenced the process with a meeting with our coaches and persons interesting in assisting with the execution of these programs on Thursday 28th September.

At that meeting we will discuss the programs plus an explanation of the FIBA new Coaching Certification Program.”

A team from the SVGBF travelled on Tuesday November 07, 2017 to deliver basketballs to all of the secondary Schools on the windward side of the island, reaching as far as Sandy Bay.

They also included schools in the Mespo area, and on Wedneasday, the team basketballs to the schools on the leeward side of St Vincent.

Williams pointed out that next week we hope to cover the secondary schools in the Grenadines.

He added that special thanks must be extended to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee “for assisting us in securing the basketballs and to the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for waiver of duties on the basketballs.

We hope that this initiative will contribute to the development of sports in the school system and the youth of SVG.”
